Flirty Kids

I work at my church's nursery and preschool department twice a month. My official title is "service captain" or "nursery overseer". It basically means that I assist the Nursery and preschool director doing whatever she needs me to do. So I go to church yesterday and get started making sure each room has all the supplies that are needed and that each room has a sign-in sheet for the parent to check their child in. Afterwards Jeannie, the director, asked me to sit at the visitor's check in and answer any questions the parent might have and help them get their children registered. So I get busy doing that, barely even noticing this family come in. She was a single mother with two young boys each about 3 years old. While helping their mother, I took a moment to look down and smile at each boy. One was oblivious to me, he was way more interested in the toy selection to be had in his classroom, but the other had different intentions in mind. Because after I smiled at him, he looked up at me with these big brown eyes....and winked at me. A three year old winked at me. I mean I guess it was cute and all, but it makes me wonder what he has seen at home. Kids minds are like little sponges, they absorb everything they see. If they see something inappropriate, they will more than likely attempt to do what they have observed at some point. If they get the reaction they are hoping for, such as a giggle, they will do it again. Parents wonder why their kids act the way they do, maybe some just need to stop and reflect on their own behavior.
